The expert Applebridge team delivered an impressive programme of construction works, drainage and underground services to an extremely tight deadline.

Their challenge:

To find a partner to deliver a range of construction and drainage/underground services to complete a new student accommodation development.

Our solution:

Our groundworks package, which is currently valued at £5 million, comprises the following:

• The construction of over 3,000 m of on-site drainage
• Laying over 16,000 m of ductwork for underground services including the excavation and backfilling of trenches
• Providing the substructures for each of the college and student accommodation buildings which involves a number of different methods of construction such as traditional pad and strip foundations and raft slabs
• We have also provided attendance on Interserve’s precast concrete foundation subcontractor

As a result of agreeing an accelerated programme it has been necessary for us to work on multiple work faces, concurrently with other trades, whilst engaging circa. 60-directly employed operatives and 20-specialist subcontractors on site at any one time. The results:  This £5m project commenced in October 2018 and was successfully completed in February 2020. The original anticipated completion date was late February 2020, however, by closely working with Interserve’s Project Managers, Design Manager and Planner, the APplebridge team has been able to accelerate the programme which has generated a 6-week programme betterment.
