Housing - Kier Living
A wide range of building and infrastructure services including the construction of 198 homes, various drainage, water and sewer works as well as site releveling and roads.
This was a challenging site with running sand at a high level and a high groundwater table. Kier Living had intended to vibro pile the site, however this was shown not to be viable once the rig had arrived.
The Applebridge team worked with Kier Living to minimise their exposure and in doing so took on the piling works. Applebridge installed a precast piling and foundation system to the site, which has reduced the project programme, helping Kier to offset the additional cost of the piling.
There have also been major increases in the cost of insulation during the project and Applebridge was able to switch to a composite system, saving costs and protecting Kier against further increases.
Scope of works included:
- Construction of 198 homes
- Releveling of the site
- Foul and surface water sewers
- Piling of foundations with precast concrete ring beams
- House construction up to DPM inclusive of external works
- Draining of the site due to water levels
- Off-site directional drilled drainage
Work commenced on site in January 2017 on this £6.25m project and is ongoing.
