Charity of the Year 2025
Gary White -Teesside Family Trustee, Gemma Peacock – Applebridge Charity Coordinator, Richard Poole -Teesside Family Trustee

At Applebridge, we’re committed to giving back to the communities that have shaped who we are. That’s why we’re delighted to announce that The Teesside Family has been named our Charity of the Year for 2025.

The decision marks the beginning of a year-long partnership, during which Applebridge Family will provide £15,000 to help The Teesside Family continue its vital work across the region.

The Teesside Family is a volunteer-led, registered charity that delivers practical and emotional support to individuals and families facing illness, financial hardship, or personal crisis. Whether it’s offering short respite breaks or supporting community and grassroots sports groups that lack funding, their work makes a meaningful difference to local lives.

Our nomination for The Teesside Family came through The CAUSE Foundation, our 2024 Charity of the Year, who recognised the incredible impact the organisation has had in Teesside.

Gemma Peacock, Applebridge’s Charity of the Year Coordinator, shared:

“The Teesside Family stood out because of the direct, hands-on support they provide to people in difficult circumstances. The charity’s reach is wide, yet the support it gives feels incredibly personal. We’re pleased to be supporting an organisation rooted in the same communities where many of our colleagues and clients live and work.”

The £15,000 donation will be used to expand access to support services, enable more families to enjoy respite breaks, and provide funding for community-led wellbeing and sporting initiatives.

Tony Wedlake, Founder and Trustee of The Teesside Family Foundation, said:

We are delighted that such an amazing company like Applebridge has chosen to support the continued work that the Foundation does within the community.

Applebridge’s Charity of the Year initiative has previously supported several regional causes, including The CAUSE Foundation (2024), Victoria’s Wish (2023), The Ellen Timney Foundation (2022), and Remembering Rebecca (2021) — each selected for their dedication to supporting vulnerable individuals and promoting community wellbeing.

We’re incredibly proud to support The Teesside Family and look forward to a year of fundraising, volunteering, and making a positive impact together.

CENE 2024

We are thrilled to share that companies within the Applebridge Family have been shortlisted for several categories at the prestigious Construction Excellence North East (CENE) Awards 2024. The ceremony will take place at The Grand Hotel, Gosforth Park on Friday, 14th June.

Our entries have been recognised in the following categories:

Delivering Value

Our company, ZTL, has been shortlisted for Project V. This project involved the complex remediation of a former factory site, standing out through innovative and environmentally sustainable practices. ZTL’s approach dramatically reduced the need for imported materials by implementing bulk earthworks, screening, and soil stabilisation. This not only led to substantial cost savings and a shorter timeline but also aligned with our zero-to-landfill ethos, enhancing the project’s environmental credentials.

Innovation

The Applebridge Family has also been recognised for our commitment to innovation. Our blue ocean strategy targets uniquely challenging projects, compelling us to innovate constantly. From pioneering ground stabilisation techniques to partnering with Material Evolution for sustainable concrete, we are dedicated to pushing the boundaries. Our investments in new technologies, like GPS for our earthworks and drone technology for surveying, further underscore our commitment to improving efficiency and sustainability in construction.

Infrastructure Project of the Year

We are doubly honoured in this category, with both ZTL and Applebridge Utilities being shortlisted for the South Bank Watercourse project. This critical piece of sustainable infrastructure involved realigning two existing becks to create a new natural water management channel. Utilising GPS excavation and recycled materials, the project includes one of the largest Gabion Wall retaining structures in Europe. It also features the installation of bespoke box culverts beneath live services and a 66kV electricity feed to support the Seah Wind Monopile Factory.

We look forward to the awards ceremony and the opportunity to celebrate the achievements of our industry peers. We will keep you updated on the outcomes from the ceremony. Stay tuned!

SeAH Monopile Factory

We are thrilled to announce that Applebridge Construction has been appointed to deliver the phase 3 concrete slab works for SeAH Wind’s monopile factory at Teesworks, a landmark project valued at £22 million. This critical phase of construction is set for completion within an ambitious 26-week timeframe.

As a North East and Yorkshire-based civil engineering contractor, we are honoured to be entrusted by K2 Construction Management with the task of constructing over 40,000m3 of concrete slabs and the installation of more than 10,000 tonnes of steel for SeAH’s mammoth facility. This appointment comes off the back of Applebridge’s successful work on the project’s earthworks, enabling, and drainage.

The project will see an accelerated programme of works, with Applebridge deploying day and night work gangs to ensure round-the-clock progress. This intensive effort underscores the project’s significance in bolstering the UK’s capabilities in renewable energy production, with the SeAH monopile factory set to play a pivotal role in the foundations of offshore wind turbines.

Situated on the Teesworks site, the £450 million factory development will stand at 40 metres tall, covering an area of 1.13 million sqft. It represents a monumental stride towards enhancing the UK’s renewable energy infrastructure, with the facility expected to generate 2,250 jobs in the local supply chain.

SeAH Wind’s monopile factory is not just a testament to the UK’s commitment to renewable energy but also to the prowess of Applebridge’s construction capabilities. Our expertise in managing complex, high-value projects under tight schedules is set to ensure the successful and timely completion of this critical infrastructure.

Chris Brown, Applebridge Managing Director expressed enthusiasm about the project, stating, “We are thrilled to continue our partnership with K2 Construction Management on this groundbreaking project. Our commitment to delivering excellence and our proven track record on large-scale projects positions us uniquely to undertake the construction of SeAH Wind’s monopile factory’s concrete works. This project not only signifies a milestone in our journey but also in the UK’s journey towards a sustainable future.”

SeAH Wind’s monopile factory at Teesworks is a beacon of progress in the UK’s renewable energy landscape, promising to enhance the nation’s competitive edge in the global market. Applebridge’s role in this transformative project marks a significant chapter in the UK’s construction and energy sectors, paving the way for a greener, more sustainable future.
