Sector:
Energy - Interserve Construction
Services:
The Applebridge team continues to conduct numerous services including extensive excavation works, design work, construction and groundworks on-site.
Their challenge:
The Construction of a new energy centre to replace the existing 50 year old mechanical and electric plant which currently powers the hospital.
Our solution:
The extensive groundworks comprised of:
- Excavation and removal of in excess of 20,000m3 of spoil from the rear of the main building in a live hospital environment with access routes being restricted to the use of public access roads and through public car parks
- Construction of in situ reinforced concrete basement floors, walls and soffit to the main building (circa 500m2 floor area)
- Complete design and installation of a Grade 1 waterproof system to the basement
- Construction of in situ reinforced concrete ground floor (circa 1700m2) varying between 200mm, 300mm, 500mm and 750mm thick incorporating a number of internal service trenches
- Formation of two underground in situ reinforced concrete service tunnels routed back into the live hospital. Tunnels are approximately 3.5m high x 3.5m to provide access for personnel from the energy centre to the main hospital
- Extension to existing on site substation foundations and slab
- Extension to existing car park and formation of new pedestrian paving to the building perimeter
- Installation of new drainage and mains services including installation of a new pumping station
The results:
This £3m project commenced in September 2017 and is ongoing.
